Wat Phrasri Ratana Sasadaram
[Wat Phra Kaew]
Located on the grounds of the Grand
Place, the Royal Chapel was built by King Rama I in 1782, when he
founded Bangkok as the capital city. The temple is home to the
Buddha image carved from a single block of Emerald. The painting
on the walls surrounding the temple illustrates the Thai version of
the Ramayana , while inside the temple, the walls are covered with
murals depicting the life of the Buddha.
National Museum
The Fine Arts Department of the Ministry of Education has renovated
the area. The front section has become a museum of fine arts
and archeology. Among the significant buildings are The Sivamokphiman
Hall, The Puthaisawan Hall, and The Isara – Vinitchai Hall. The
entrance fee is 20 Baht.
The Grand Place
Established by King Rama I as the royal compound, the 61 acre area
contains former royal residences, The Chakri Maha Prasat, The Dusit
Mahaprasat, The Amarin, The Phaisanthaksin and The Chakkraphatphiman.
The Grand Palace is surrounded by distinctive, Thai-style crenellated
walls and fortifications. The general layout of the complex
is similar to that of the Royal Palace during the Ayutthaya period.
Open daily from 8.30 -11.30 and from 13.00 -15.30. The
entrance fee is 100 Baht.
National Theatre
Performances and plays are presented throughout the year.
National Art Gallery
The National Art Gallery is located on Chao Fa Road opposite
Tha National Theatre. The gallery exhibits traditional and contemporary
works of art by Thai artists. It is open to the public on Tuesday,
Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 9.00 – 16.00 (Tel :
02-281-2224) The entrance fee is 10 Baht.
Wat Leng Nuei Yee [The Dragon Flower Temple]
The Dragon Flower Temple is the oldest Chinese Buddhist temple containing
various deities specific to Chinese worship. The temple is used
to hold many religious ceremonies.
Wat Khaek Silom [Phrasrimaha Umathewi]
The temple is one of the finest Hindu temples representing the art
and culture of India.
Patpong – Thaniya
The world famous place offers various kinds of entertainment - drinking,
music, dancing, sidewalk shopping. It begins to get busy in
the evening when people start to come out and enjoy nightlife.
